Arjan Vergeer
Arjan Vergeer is a freelance illustrator working from his hometown Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Since he graduated in 2001 from artchool ‘de Willem de Kooning’ Academy, Arjan has been working with many clients making t-shirt designs, illustrations, wall paintings, festival decorations, tattoo designs, landscapes, character designs, album covers, posters and promotional media.
Arjan is called Januz by most of his friends and family so this is how the JANUZART moniker came to life.
His style is versatile but with recognisable JANUZART elements like ornaments, bright colours and patterns.
In 2001 he won two design competitions which brought him to Japan, twice. He travelled with a delegation of people to celebrate the 400 years of trade relations between japan and the netherlands.
Since then Arjan is inspired by Japanese manga and Popculture, Robots and Mech art.
He grew up with his father building Dutch Street-organs. The design language of colourful ornaments as used in the facades of the organs is another great source of inspiration.
This is also where his love for artnoveau and Jugendstil comes from, like the arts from Mucha.
Another form of inspiration comes from the freeparty scene. Arjan likes to go to underground acid-parties for years and the psychadelic black and white style as used on flyers or record labels are a huge inspiration.
You can see all the infuences come back in his JANUZART.
Clients include Eskis-Company, Transportbedrijf G de Bruyn, Stichting Droomtheater, Full On Sound & Light, Acid Anonymous and many others around the world.
